The lecture, titled “Enugu State, Nigeria: New Political Leadership; Bold Economic Vision – Spotlight on the Health and Education Strategies” was well-attended by scholars, academics, post-graduate students, entrepreneurs, investors across continents, race and colour.
It highlighted Enugu State’s drive towards birthing new transcendental values, paradigm shift in the state’s leadership structure, and governance through institutional reforms, which had already begun.
There are deliberate attempts by the Mbah administration to disrupt the established norms that have seen growth and development tugged into a uniliniar movement for the past decades. The new thought patterns have taken a reflective approach of demonstrating empirical triple digits, encampsulating the uncanny pace of migrating the economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion, eradicating rather than reducing poverty, attaining a status of fiscal height that is self-sufficient rather than depending on the federal for “baby-feeding”, equipping an educational standard and learning methods that are globally competitive in science, tech, engineering and mathematics, and sustaining accessible healthcare system that discourages brain drain and encourages medical tourism – Enugu being the destination hub.
The good news is that the journey has begun, and investors are picking interest in the state. This will inspire rapid growth across the sectors. With the aggressive posture of the administration in rebuilding a set of new infrastructure, moving away from inherited infrastructural decay, this reinforces confidence in the environment as externally risk-free for investment.
The making of a New Enugu State is becoming a possibility, and the journey to achieving the target has started counting.
